Florida & Canada
Partners in security & prosperity

Strengthening Canada–U.S. defense collaboration

Canadian defense procurement is strengthening U.S. and Canadian maritime security. In 2023, Canada announced it would purchase up to 16 aircraft replacing the CP-140 Aurora.

Currently, a Canadian crew, comprising eight members, including two pilots, two Air Combat Systems Officers and four Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators, are undergoing specialized training on the P-8A Poseidon at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, in Florida. They have already completed one year of intensive training, marking a major leap forward in Canada’s ability to patrol and protect its vast maritime domains.

Shared training and common equipment mean Canada and the United States can respond quickly and effectively to surface and subsurface threats — a powerful example of partnership and trust to keep Americans and Canadians safe.

Canada: Strengthening Florida’s economy and security

Canadian companies are investing and working in Florida to create skilled jobs and strengthening security for Americans. Canada’s Octasic US, which provides advanced intelligence solutions for U.S. defense operations, opened a Melbourne, FL facility to support next-generation technologies.

Meanwhile, Mobile Police Training Structures Inc. provided reconfigurable simulated environments to law enforcement agencies in Orlando, St. Petersburg, and Hillsborough County allowing for the creation of immersive and realistic training that leads to improved public safety.

By fostering innovation, strengthening defense capabilities, and building local expertise, Canada remains an indispensable partner for Florida’s prosperity and safety.

Canadian utility crews help Florida bounce back after hurricanes

When Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck Florida in late 2024, millions of residents were left without power across the state. Communities in Tampa, Sarasota, Manatee, Hardee, and St. Lucie counties faced widespread outages, threatening hospitals, schools, and businesses. Florida utilities launched massive restoration efforts — but the scale of destruction called for reinforcements.

Canadian utilities answered Florida’s call. Crews from Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Alberta deployed hundreds of skilled line workers and support staff to help restore power quickly and safely.

Thanks to this international collaboration, Florida utilities restored service to millions of customers far ahead of schedule. Canadian crews brought not only technical expertise, but also hope to Floridians facing weeks of uncertainty.

This effort highlights the strength of Canada–U.S. partnerships and the resilience of our shared infrastructure. When disaster strikes, neighbors help neighbors.
