Protecting water and growing the future

In 2022, Canadian clean tech company Ostara broke ground on its new production facility in St. Louis, which created 40 new jobs and generated a $25 million capital investment. The barge-served Crystal Green® fertilizer facility is now operating as Ostara’s largest in the U.S. The company believes that St. Louis was a natural choice to produce their environmentally-friendly product, which won a $7.6 million U.S. Department of Agriculture grant in 2023 to support innovative made-in-America fertilizers.

Ostara develops technologies to manage phosphorous and nitrogen sustainably, reducing the amount released into the environment while improving crop yields. The St. Louis facility produces 200,000 tons per year, helping limit nutrient spikes and algal blooms in waterways throughout the country.

This shows how Canadian investments in Missouri creates local jobs and supports regional industries like agriculture.

The cool future of USMCA rail trade

Kansas City is the lynchpin of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (CPKC) network, the first and only single-line railroad connecting Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. To capitalize on this tri-national infrastructure, in August 2025, temperature-controlled logistics leader Americold partnered with CPKC to supplement their Kansas City interchange with a new $127 million import-export hub. The 335,000 square foot cold storage facility created 190 new jobs for Missouri, and increased flexibility and cargo clearance capacity for companies using CPKC to transport goods across all of North America. This Calgary-headquartered railroad, and its surrounding investment, is one example of how Missouri benefits from continued trade across the three countries.

Supporting new construction across Missouri

Alberta-born IKO Industries is a global authority on roofing, insulation, and waterproofing, and it continues to invest its expertise in Missouri. The company broke ground in June 2025 on a new $120 million granule facility in Bismarck, for its subsidiary Bismarck Granules, which will supply its shingle manufacturing plants throughout the United States. The 220,000 square foot facility includes storage domes and dedicated rail infrastructure and brought 50 permanent jobs to Bismarck.
