Pennsylvania & Canada
Partners in security & prosperity
Canada on ice:
The Penguins’ power play
Beyond the deep economic ties between Canada and Pennsylvania, there is no question Canadians are also leaders in beloved sports franchises. When it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ five Stanley Cup wins since 1991, Canada has been the MVP behind the scenes, and on the ice. Two Canadian icons, Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby, didn’t just play; they defined an era. Lemieux dazzled fans as a player, then pulled off the ultimate power play by becoming the team’s principal owner from 1999 to 2021. Crosby? He’s the captain who turned clutch moments into championships.
Off the rink, these legends score big for the community. From funding cancer research through the Mario Lemieux Foundation to supporting local initiatives, their impact in Pennsylvania goes far beyond hockey. Canada didn’t just bring talent to Pittsburgh — it brought heart.
Canadian investment powers U.S. clean energy and job growth
In 2023, Canada’s leading uranium producer, Cameco, and Canadian investment firm Brookfield acquired Westinghouse Electric Company, a Pennsylvania-based nuclear energy leader. This partnership strengthens energy security and expands clean energy innovation.
Westinghouse’s next-generation eVinci microreactor provides carbon-free, transportable, and scalable nuclear power, offering a clean alternative to diesel-reliant communities. The investment is also driving job growth, supporting well-paying jobs in Etna, PA, where Westinghouse has repurposed a former steel mill for its eVinci accelerator, and in Burlington, Ontario.
By combining Cameco’s nuclear expertise with Brookfield’s clean energy leadership, this Canada–U.S. collaboration is accelerating the clean energy transition, expanding the renewable energy workforce, and creating jobs in Pennsylvania.
Canada invests in Pennsylvania
